Week 1 ART 220 Wednesday class

Today’s class was actually quite interesting .We looked at concept, time, perception, representation, and communicating. Concept is an idea made up, not real. Concept or an idea it’s related with time. We have the concept of time that a day is compose of 24 hrs. Time was an invention but why we need time? I heard a very interesting answer it’s a sense of man to make order. We need time to put order in our daily life to do certain things at certain times. Time constantly changes but time it’s kind of a pattern it goes in a linear way. Linear time it moves to one place continuously to another. For example, time moves from second, minute, hour, day, week, month, year, and so on. Perception it’s the process of changing how you see things differently. The exercise of the apple is for us to see how it changes and what we see different about it. Also, today in class we experienced the process of changing because we didn’t sit with the same person, the same chair, the same place than last class. Also, how you perceive things is not the same as other person might perceive them. Representation is the study of meanings and symbols, and communication of ideas. We learned a term called Iconography that has to be with symbolism, meaning, logo, depicts or representation. For example, a drawing is a representation or a photograph is not real is a depiction which communicate meaning. Communicate which is the message that you want people to get .We learned that there are different types of communication such as story telling reading pictures, and colors. Colors communicate things for example, red, yellow are associated with food. Also, pictures communicate things through colors and tell stories .For example, you can perceive mood such as sadness or happiness. One last example from reading a picture that tell a story was the picture of the two rich women and the homeless it depicts that the rich women didn’t care about people in need.

ART 220 CONCEPT DEVELOPNENT week 1

Today it was the first day of class and we went over the syllabus. We answered two questions what we think we might do in the class? And what we might learn? .It was a good experience because we start getting ideas, even thought we didn’t have any idea of what the class it was going to be. We learn to communicate and express our thoughts. We heard all the answers from different people and everyone had their own ideas about what the class might be, but at the end all the answers related somehow. For example, someone said we will learn to think outside the box, learn to observe, to do brain storming to get new ideas for projects, looking to art and places, to communicate, to approach different materials. We use our imagination in order to figure out what the class was going to be like. We learn to be aware of things that we might never look at, for example the exercise of the apple. How many times we have seen an apple and never take the time to observe it, feel the texture, smell it, look at colors, or taste it. I think what we learn made a difference in all of us because now we will be more aware about our surrounding. The skills I got from this particular class were to observe more at things and communicate with other people, share thoughts and ideas with others, and develop more the use of our imagination. We experienced to be people with an open mind, express our thoughts and get knowledge about what other people think and learn to observe everything.
